Golden Wolves Drop Close Contest to Bears, 51-49

Reading, Pa. (November 18, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-1) dropped a closely contested non-conference women's basketball tilt to Ursinus College (3-2), 51-49, Tuesday night on Alvernia's Jack McCloskey Court.

The Golden Wolves held a 18-17 lead after the first ten minutes of action, but the Bears bounced back to take a one point, 29-28, lead into the half. Both teams then recorded four points in the third quarter before Ursinus outscored the Golden Wolves by one, 18-17, in the final quarter of play to secure the two point victory.

How it Happened
  • Both sides traded layups to open the game, but Ursinus then took a 6-2 lead with a pair of back-to-back jumpers. The Bears then took an 8-4 lead off a layup through three minutes of action.
  • Alvernia quickly closed within one, 8-7, on a Ryleigh Poole 3-pointer. The Golden Wolves then took the 10-8 lead off another 3-pointer by Poole with 5:18 to play. Alvernia held the Bears to just four points over the course of nearly five minutes as Alvernia used a 12-4 run to take a 16-10 lead on Ursinus with three minutes to play in the opening frame. Poole's pair of 3-pointers led Alvernia during the run.
  • Ursinus put an end to the run and outscored Alvernia 7-2 in the final three minutes of the quarter to make it an 18-17 game in favor of Alvernia going into the second quarter.
  • The Bears retook the lead on a jumper to open the second quarter, but Alvernia took it right back with an answering turn-around jump shot from Olivia Burke.
  • Kyla Reed then gave Alvernia the 22-21 advantage with 8:44 to play in the quarter. Both teams then went scoreless for nearly two and a half minutes before Ursinus retook the lead, 23-22, on a pair of made free throws. Ursinus took a three point lead, 25-22, with five minutes to play in the half as Alvernia's scoreless stretch continued.
  • Alvernia got back on the board and back within one, 25-24, as a Taryn Woodson layup put an end to Alvernia's nearly five minute long scoring drought. Another layup from Woodson with 2:47 to play in the half gave Alvernia back the lead, 26-25, and Woodson stayed hot with another layup to give Alvernia the 28-25 lead with two minutes to play. But, the Bears scored the final four points of the quarter to take the 29-28 lead into the half.
  • Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter. Both sides put up just four points each in the third frame, giving Ursinus the slight 33-32 lead going into the final ten minutes.
  • Ursinus outscored Alvernia 10-2 in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, taking a 43-34 lead on Alvernia with 7:33 to play in the game.
  • The Bears held at least a seven point lead through the majority of the fourth quarter until Alvernia threatened late. A Jennah DeGout layup made it a seven point game, 48-41, with 1:56 to play, and a Jordyn Ingelido layup off a steal made it a five point game, 48-43, with 1:10 to play. The Golden Wolves started to send the Bears to the line, and Ursinus converted three of its four opportunities early in the final minute of action. A driving layup and 3-pointer by Burke got Alvernia back within two, 51-49, with just four seconds to play. Alvernia fouled the Bears on the inbounds, and Ursinus missed both opportunities at the line to keep Alvernia alive. DeGout grabbed the ball for Alvernia off the final miss, but Alvernia ran out of time as the Bears secured the 51-49 win.
