But, both teams went scoreless in the final minute of the quarter as Carnegie Mellon took the 17-9 lead into the second quarter. DeGout finished with six of Alvernia's nine first quarter points.
  • DeGout stayed hot for the Golden Wolves to open the second quarter and brought Alvernia within six, 17-11, with a layup a minute into the quarter. But, that marked Alvernia's only points through the first four and a half minutes  of the quarter as Carnegie Mellon took a 22-11 lead.
  • Paige Garner put a brief end to Alvernia's scoreless stretch with a 3-pointer, but Alvernia went scoreless again for another two and a half minutes as CMU took a 28-14 lead. Alvernia was then held to four points the rest of the quarter as Carnegie Mellon took a 35-17 lead into the half.
  • Alvernia opened the scoring in the second half with six straight points by Olivia Burke to cut Carnegie's lead down to 12, 35-23, through the first two minutes of the third quarter. But, Carnegie responded with a 15-2 run over the next five minutes to take a 50-25 lead with 2:39 to play in the quarter. Carnegie went on to take a 52-29 lead into the final frame.
