Alvernia Secures Weekend Sweep of Neumann, 4-1

Aston, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2025) - Alvernia University (7-3, 2-8) secured the weekend sweep of Neumann University (2-8, 2-6) with a 4-1 win over the Knights on Saturday afternoon in MAC Women's Ice Hockey action.

The Golden Wolves netted two late goals in the first period to take the 2-0 lead over the Knights into the second frame. Alvernia then scored in the opening minute of the second period on a power-play goal. Neumann got one back midway through the period with a power-play goal of its own, but Alvernia closed out the period retaking a three-goal advantage with a goal with four minutes to play in the second frame. The Golden Wolves then held the Knights at bay in the third period, allowing just eight shots total and only five shots on net.

With the win, Alvernia improves to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in MAC play going into the holiday break. Alvernia is in fourth place in the MAC going into the winter hiatus.

How it Happened
Alvernia dominated the opening minutes of the contest, holding the Knights without a shot for nearly 12 minutes. The Golden Wolves got on the board 13 minutes into the contest on a goal by Khenzie Connick with Addy Gularte on the assist. Alvernia's offensive pressure slowed a bit, but the Golden Wolves found the back of the net again with 1:48 to play in the period as Kathryn Palmer connected with Alexis Oliveira to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead. The Golden Wolves held that lead going into the second period.

The Golden Wolves wasted little time making it a 3-0 game as Erin Schutt scored a power-play goal just 47 seconds into the period. Palmer picked up her second assist of the afternoon on the Schutt goal. Nine minutes later, Neumann ended Alvernia's shutout bid with a power-play goal to get back within two.

Oliveira then netted her second of the period on a putback goal off the initial shot of Marissa Caswell to push Alverna's lead back up to three, 4-1, with four minutes to play in the period. The Golden Wolves defense then took over from there. Stephanie Skorupa made four saves to close out the period. Alvernia then allowed just five shots on goal the entirety of the third period to secure the 4-1 win. Bella Deroisers took over for Skorupa in net in the third period and made all five stops.
