Lackman was the National Runner-Up at 165 lbs at the 2023 Division III Men’s Wrestling National Championship in Roanoke, Virginia on Friday and Saturday. Lackman started his tournament run with a 2-0 decision over Ohio Northern’s Jordan Hardrick, and then secured his second All-American finish with a 5-0 quarterfinal win over Augsburg’s Cooper Willis on Friday night. Lackman then secured a spot in the championship with a semifinal win over Wisconsin La-Crosses’s Noah Leisgang. Lackman went on to face his brother, Nathan, of Rhode Island College in the 165 lb final. The bout went to overtime, where Nathan secured a takedown over Matthew for the sudden victory.
