Yogi Lutz has been the head coach at Alvernia since 1987. He is a seven-time Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) Champion, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2005. He is also the 2009 Freedom Conference Champion. Lutz earned his 400th win as his team won the PAC championship in 2003. Lutz also won his 600th game in 2010, earned his 800th career win in 2016 and his 1,000th career win in 2025. He was an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Southern Division Champion in 2001. In 1991, he won the NAIA District 19 Championship. Lutz has reached the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regionals 15 times: 1995, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2024. In 2002, his team reached the Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional championship for the first time in school history. Ending his 25th season in 2011 with a record of 656-296-5, he led the team all the way to NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship Round. Lutz recorded his 900th victory as the head Alvernia Baseball coach in 2020 with a 10-1 victory over Thiel. Since 2020, Lutz has coached 18 All-MAC Commonwealth honorees with four first team selections, 12 second team selections and two honorable mention selections. Lutz has also coached eight All-Region honorees since 2020, two Rookie of the Year honorees in Shayne Ostrowsky (2021) and Evan Wood (2023), and also coached an ABCA All-American in Mike Cirilli (2021). Lutz also led the Golden Wolves to a MAC Commonwealth title in 2019 and a NCAA Appearance, he led Alvernia to the MAC Commonwealth Championship Series and the ECAC Championship in 2023.

Lutz earned KAC Coach of the Year in 1988. He was the NAIA District 19 Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1992. He was a PAC Coach of the Year in 1993, 1995, and 2003. Lutz earned the Louisville Slugger Coaches Award in 1995 and 1998.  In 2011 he led the Crusaders to their third straight NCAA Regional appearance and was named ABCA/Diamond Sports Company NCAA Division III Regional Coach of the Year. Lutz is also a two-time MAC Commonwealth Coach of the Year, earning the honor in 2013 and 2015.

Lutz was a Keystone State Games Blue Mountain Collegiate Coach from 1991 to 1999. He earned four Gold, three Silver, and two Bronze medals in the Keystone State Games. In 2000, he was an assistant coach for the Shillington Dodgers Junior Legion team. Lutz then was promoted to the Shillington Red Sox Senior Legion team as the pitching coach from 2001 to 2003. He currently resides in Flying Hills. His son, Zach, was drafted by the New York Mets in 2007 after playing for three years at Alvernia.
