#13 Juniata Blanks Alvernia

Crusaders Outshoot Juniata 12-9 But Fall 3-0

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 16, 2007) – Alvernia College (12-4) saw their three game winning streak come to an end as Juniata relied on two defensive saves to stifle the Crusader offense.   With the win Juniata improves to 14-2.

Juniata got on the board in the 6th minute when freshman forward Paula Price (East Pennsboro/Camp Hill, PA) received a pass from Leslie Stern (Red Lion/Felton, PA) in front of the net and connected for her tenth goal of the season.  Unfazed, the Crusaders played a tough first half, outpacing Juniata in corners 8-2 and shots 8-7, but couldn't manage the equalizer.  Alvernia saw their best chance at tying in the 28th minute when junior Christy Miller (Alburtis, PA/Brandywine Heights) blasted a shot past the goalie, but the Juniata defense turned it away with a defensive save from senior Heather Hassinger (Middleburg/Middleburg, PA).

Juniata went up 2-0 with less than a minute left in the first half when senior forward Kim Wagner (Middletown/Middletown, PA) found the back of the net for her 17th goal of the season.  Wagner is now tied for fifth in the nation with 17 goals.

The Crusaders continued their tough offensive attack in the second half outshooting Juniata 4-2, however Juniata capitalized on fouls in the circle resulting in seven corners to Alvernia's one.  Juniata added their third goal seven minutes into the second half off the stick of junior back Erin Smith (Palmyra/Palmyra, PA) for her third goal of the season.

Alvernia will return to action at Rosemont on Friday afternoon as the Ramblers challenge their unblemished 8-0 Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Record.
