Alvernia Extends Win Streak To Four

Ashley Tatangelo Scores Overtime Game-Winner

BOX SCORE

Wilkes Barre, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2007) – Alvernia junior Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) made a dozen saves, but none bigger than an overtime stop of a penalty stroke that extended the game for freshman Ashley Tatangelo (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) to net the double overtime game-winner in a 3-2 win over King's College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at King's.

Hoffman made a diving save of Grace King's penalty stroke in the first overtime and senior midfielder Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, N.J./Howell) set up Tatangelo for the game-winner seven minutes into the second extra period.

King's (5-1) opened the scoring early with a goal in the fifth minute of play, but Alvernia (5-2) needed just three minutes to level the score when Dawn Beiswenger (Denver, Pa./Garden Spot) scored on an assist from junior Christy Miller (Alburtis, Pa./Brandywine Heights).

Miller set up Treadwell five minutes into the second half and Alvernia held a 2-1 lead. The lead nearly held up, but King's forced the overtime period with a goal in the final minute of regulation.

Hoffman made five of her 12 saves in the first overtime while King's counterpart Kari Leach made four of her 15 saves in the first overtime.

Alvernia held a 31-20 advantage in shots led by Beiswenger and sophomore Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights) who tallied nine shots apiece. Alvernia recorded a pair of defensive saves, one from Beiswenger and another from Tatangelo.

Alvernia will take its four-game winning streak to Eastern University on Saturday for a rematch of the last two conference championship finals.
