Alvernia Avoids Déjà vu In Game Two

BOX SCORE

Selisgrove, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2007) – Senior forward Shayna Clark (Leesport, Pa./SchuylkillValley) scored in the ninth minute of overtime to give #20 Alvernia College a 2-1 win over Susquehanna University Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.

Two days earlier the Crusaders dropped a heart-breaking 2-1 overtime loss in the season-opener to Franklin & Marshall and after giving up a goal in the final minute of regulation. Sunday, Alvernia put a goal on the board five minutes into the second half only to see Susquehanna tie the score on a goal with just over two minutes left.

Both goalies turned aside a potential game-winner in the extra frame before freshman Leslie Michael (Zionsville, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) sent a cross into the circle that Clark knocked home with a diving effort.

Junior goalie Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, Pa/Brandywine Heights) made seven saves to even her record at 1-1. Her counterpart Lyndsay Meabon stopped 15 shots as Alvernia held a decisive 25-12 advantage in shots. Sophomore Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights) rattled off 11 of Alvernia's 25 shots.

Susquehanna held the edge in penalty corners 6-4. Alvernia will travel to #8 Lebanon Valley on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. game.
