Ampohsah Sets Career Highs In Loss

BOX SCORE

Purchase, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2008) - Senior Jeff Amponsah (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Carson Long Military Academy) recorded a career-high double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough for Alvernia University (3-4, 2-0) which shot 33 percent from the floor and less than 50 percent from the free throw line in a 65-53 loss at Manhattanville College (6-3, 2-0) Saturday afternoon in Freedom Conference men's basketball action.

Alvernia scored just 19 points in the first half hitting 9-of-28 shots from the floor and missing four of the five free throw shots it attempted.  Fortunately the Valiants only managed 22 points on 9-of-24 shooting.

Alvernia took a one-point lead with 13 minutes to play, but Manhattanville scored 11 of the next 14 points to take a 37-32 lead and the Valiants never trailed.

The Crusaders pulled within five, 45-40 with under seven minutes to play, but couldn't pull closer.

Amponsah was the only player to reach double figures for Alvernia.  Senior Tyrone Bradley (Chester, Pa. Chester) scored six points and pulled down a team-best 11 rebounds.

Alvernia will take a week off for finals and return to action at King's College on Monday, Dec. 15.
