Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and
Jeremy Hausdorf (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) combined for a game two shutout as Alvernia College swept a doubleheader from Misericordia University Thursday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Alvernia.
Alvernia needed single runs in the sixth and eighth inning of game one for a come-from-behind 5-4 win. Freshman
Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) knocked in the game-tying run with a sac fly in the sixth and scored on a
Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell Egan) fielder's choice in the eighth for the walk-off win.
Nicholas went six strong innings for the Crusaders in the nightcap allowing just four baserunners while striking out three and Hausdorf got the Cougars in order in the seventh to close out a 5-0 win.
Alvernia scored a pair of runs in the first inning of the opener and held a 3-1 lead after two innings, but Misericordia plated single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead. The Cougars manufactured runs in all three innings scoring on two sac flies and a fielder's choice grounder.

Steve Burdan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) doubled with one out in the sixth and stole third before Martin's sac fly to right. Martin singled to lead off the eighth and took second on a passed ball. He moved to third on a single and Carroll hit a ground ball to first with one out. The Cougars came home to try to get Martin, but the freshman avoided the tag to score the game-winner.
Carroll started game two with a single and a run scored for the Crusaders and was the third player to cross the plate in the third inning to give the hosts a 4-0 lead. Martin scored as a pinch runner in the sixth for the final margin.
Alvernia will finish the three game series with the Cougars on Tuesday at Misericordia.
