Lower Gwynedd, Pa. (Mar. 30 2008) – Alvernia College scored seven runs over a three inning span and held off a late Gwynedd-Mercy comeback in a 9-8 win on Sunday finishing a three game sweep of the Griffins in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Gwynedd-Mercy.

Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) drove a two-run double to left center with two out in the third to tie the game and the Crusaders added two runs in each of the next two innings for a 7-3 lead.

Brendan Barry (Franklin Square, Pa./St. Mary's) lifted a sacrifice fly to center in the fourth and senior
Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell Egan), who finished the day 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs, pulled a run-scoring double into the right center gap.
James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) reached on a two-out single in the fifth and senior
Steve Burdan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) hit a two-run home run to left for the 7-3 lead.
Gwynedd-Mercy scored three times in the home half of the fifth on four singles and a hit batter, but Alvernia went back up three with a pair in the eighth on a bases-loaded single off the bat of freshman

GMC scored on a pair of RBI groundouts in the ninth and junior reliever
Steve Geisel (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) nailed down his first save getting the final out on a ground ball to second base.
Alvernia will host DeSales University on Wednesday in non-conference action.
