Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and sophomore
Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) both picked up wins on the mound.
Alvernia (7-3) scored four times in the third inning of a 6-3 win in the opener and six times in the second inning of game two en route to an 8-0 win. Curry scored on a wild pitch for the Crusaders second run in the opener and doubled home two more in the middle of their four-run output that put them up 6-0 in support of Stoudt. The 6-3 lefty went five innings and gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out eight.
Senior closer
Andrew Long (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) pitched out of a bit of trouble in the sixth and retired the Jays in order in the seventh to pick up his first save of the season. Curry finished game one 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs score and two driven in.
James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) and Curry started the second inning of game two with back-to-back doubles and Alvernia sent 10 batters to the plate scoring six runs on six hits. Freshman
Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville) drove in a pair with a two-out, bases loaded single, and Stoudt, playing first base in game two, drove in two more with a double down the leftfield line.
The Crusaders added two more on a two-run single by Geosits in the fourth inning and cruised to the victory. Zellers went five innings giving up three hits while striking out five.
Alvernia will wrap up the Spring Break trip with a game against Northwestern (Minn.) on Friday and is scheduled to open the northern schedule Monday at Rowan.
