DeBarberie Leads Big Offensive Day

Sophomore Outfielder Collects Two Homers, Eight RBIs

St. David's, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2008) – Sophomore outfielder Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) went 5-for-7 with a bases-loaded triple, two homers, and eight RBIs to lead Alvernia College to a 22-8 win over Eastern University Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Eastern.

DeBarberie's bases-loaded triple in the third inning gave Alvernia a 7-6 lead and the offense scored in eight of the nine innings to pull away. Freshman first baseman Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) hit a solo homer to lead off the fifth, one of three long balls for the guests.

DeBarberie led off the seventh with a homer and hit a three-run shot in the ninth to cap the Alvernia scoring.
Senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) went 3-for-4 with five runs scored and junior James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) was 4-for-6 with three runs scored and four knocked in. Stoudt and DeBarberie both scored four times and senior Corey Berghardt (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) joined the hit parade with three base hits in six at-bats.

Freshman reliever Jeff Knosp (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was the beneficiary of the offense picking up his second win of the season in relief.

Alvernia and Eastern will complete the three-game series with a doubleheader in Reading on Saturday.
