Harrisburg, Pa. (Apr. 26, 2008) – Alvernia College swept a non-conference doubleheader behind freshman starters Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) at Penn State-Harrisburg Saturday afternoon with both hurlers remaining unbeaten at 5-0 and 8-0 respectively in baseball action at Harrisburg.

Stoudt got plenty of run support in the opener as the Crusaders posted a 26-4 victory. It was the 13th double-digit run output for Alvernia and the third time the team scored 20-plus runs. Nicholas, who threw six shutout innings, went at least six for the seventh time this season, and held an opponent scoreless for the fourth time.

The top three hitters in the Alvernia lineup once again paced the offense. Senior leadoff Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell Egan) was 5-for-6 over two games with four runs scored, a double, and an RBI. He also stole a pair of bases raising his season total to 25; four shy of his career high for a season. Senior catcher Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) was 4-for-5 at the plate with four runs scored, two homers, and six RBIs, and junior James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) was 5-for-7 with 2 runs scored and three RBIs. Carroll, Curry, and Geosits are all hitting better than .400 on the season led by Geosits at .435.

Carroll walked, stole second, and scored in the first inning of game one and the Crusaders (30-10), never trailed. Curry hit his first of two home runs in the first inning and added a three-run shot in the seventh where the Crusaders posted 10 runs.

Carroll singled and scored to open game two and Alvernia built a 9-0 lead through three innings as Nicholas cruised. He allowed at least one baserunner every inning, but never faced serious trouble to pick up his eighth win.

Alvernia reached 30 wins for the six time and third straight season. The Crusaders will enter this weekend's conference championship as the top seed looking for their ninth title in their final year as a member of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference. Alvernia will face #4 Misericordia University on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, Pa.
