BOX SCORE

Boyertown, Pa. (May 4, 2008) – Gwynedd-Mercy College junior Tim McMenamin (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) pitched six innings of three-hit ball, striking out six, and hit one of the Griffins (22-18) two grand slams as #2 GMC won its fourth Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Baseball title with a 14-1 victory over #3 Centenary College (20-19) Sunday afternoon at Bear Stadium.

Gwynedd-Mercy matched a first-inning run from the Cyclones and put fours on the board in three straight innings to pull away in support of McMenamin. The Griffins got a sacrifice fly from freshman Steve Sable (Ivyland, Pa./Holy Ghost) to start the scoring in the third and got RBI doubles from Scott Carroll (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South), Mike Albert (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury), and Nick DiEnno (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan).

In the fourth Albert and McMenamin both singled before DiEnno walked to load the bases. Sophomore Dan Strack (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost), who earned co-MVP honors with McMenamin, slugged a grand slam to deep right field to put the Griffins up 9-1.

McMenamin then tossed his fourth straight scoreless inning in the top of the fifth and senior Mark Mattes (Doylestown, Pa./C.B. East) reached on an error with one out. Carroll followed hitting a chopper off the plate that put two on and Albert walked to load the bases. Up stepped McMenamin who went opposite field for the Griffins second grand in as many innings to push the lead to 13-1.

The Griffins tacked on another run in the seventh when Mattes doubled and scored, and three different relievers pitched an inning each to close out the win.

Three different players picked up three hits each led by McMenamin who finished 3-for-3 with three runs scored and six RBIs. Mattes and Carroll had three hits apiece and Mattes scored a game-best four runs.

Gwynedd-Mercy will now represent the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in the NCAA Regional.
