Freshman Eby Scores Four As Alvernia Cruises Past Neumann

Freshman Forward Katy Eby Had Four Goals And One Assist In Alvernia's 5-0 Win

Reading, PA (Sept. 20, 2008) – Freshman forward Katy Eby (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) score four goals and assisted on the fifth as the Crusader Field Hockey team improved to 5-2 with a 5-0 win over Neumann College this afternoon in non-conference action at Alvernia College. With the loss Neumann falls to 1-7.

The first half saw Alvernia quickly dominate the game, earning five corners in the first eight minutes. Although they were unsuccessful on their corner attempts they broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute when Eby connected for her fourth goal of the season to give the Crusaders the 1-0 lead. They added another goal just before the half when Eby again found the back of the cage for her team-leading fifth goal. Both of Eby's first-half goals were assisted by junior Janelle Lynch (Macungie, PA/Brandywine). Neumann fired off three shots of their own in the first half, with one banging off the post and another needing a defensive save from freshman Sarah George (Westchester, PA/WC Bayard Rustin). Alvernia tallied ten shots in the first half and earned six corners to Neumann's zero.

The Crusaders took the 3-0 lead five minutes into the second half when Mary VanKirk (Temple, PA/Oley Valley) connected on a corner play thanks to a pass from Eby for her first goal of the season. Eby added her third goal of the game in the 47th minute, and finished up with her fourth of the game and seventh of the season in the 53rd minute as Alvernia cruised to the 5-0 victory.

Alvernia out shot the Knights from Neumann 23-7 over the game and earned an impressive 16 corners to Neumann's four.

The Crusaders will take the field again Sept. 24th when they travel to F&M for a 4:30 start.
