BOX SCORE

York, Pa. (Jan. 4, 2009) - Senior center Tyrone Bradley (Chester, Pa./Chester) scored a game-high 18 points and despite a 55-percent free throw effort for the game, Alvernia University (5-6) hit the freebies when it had to knocking down 5-of-6 in the last 17 seconds to expand a two-point lead into a 69-62 win over York College (3-9) Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the York College Tournament.

Bradley scored 10 points in the first half as Alvernia opened up a 36-31 lead at the break.

The lead grew to nine points, 44-35 after a Bradley layup with 15:42 to play, but York ran off a 17-5 run over the next nine minutes to take a three-point lead with under six to play.  Junior Nick Rivera (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) stopped the streak with a dunk on the fast break and senior Jeff Amponsah (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Carson Long Military Academy), who finished with 16 points, added a layup to give the lead back to the Crusaders.

Amponsah scored again and assisted on a Derek Dubbs (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) bucket as Alvernia ran off eight straight points for a 57-52 lead with 4:34 to play.  York cut it to one with 2:42 to play, but Alvernia scored just enough to hold two, 64-62 with 17 ticks to go.  Sophomore Eric Barefield (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) hit 1-of-2 free throws on the next Alvernia possession, and Bradley and Dubbs added two each for the final margin.

Rivera was the third Crusader to reach double digits with 13 points and York put four players in double figures led by Mike Riley, who totalled 13.
