George Nets Game-Winner Against Juniata

Alvernia Snaps Juniata's Nine-Game Win Streak

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 12, 2009) - Sopohomore Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./WC Bayard Rustin) scored the lone goal of the game as Alvernia (8-6) snapped visiting Juniata's (11-3) nine-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory this evening. The goal was George's second of the season, with her first goal being the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over York University (9/4).

As the game began, Juniata appeared to be in control, dominating the first half with eight shots and four corners to Alvernia's zero in both categories. Alvernia goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) would need three saves in the first half to preserve the scoreless tie.

The Crusaders regrouped at the half and would quickly find the back of the net in the 40th minute. Senior captain Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) fired off a blistering shot from the top of the circle that would need a defensive same from Eagle Megan McGlone, but George would quickly find the rebound and take advantage of the our of position Eagle goalie for the game-winner.

Alvernia out shot the Eagles in the second half 8-5 while earning five penalty corners to Juniata's none.

The Crusaders will return to action October 15th when they travel to Susquehanna University for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
