Alvernia Defeats King's College 4-2

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (October 5, 2009) - Senior Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) connected for her fourth career hat trick as Alvernia (6-5) defeated visiting King's College (7-4) in non-conference action this afternoon.  Lynch has now scored five goals in her last two games and leads the Crusaders with eight goals this season.

Alvernia got on the board in the 13th minute when sophomore Sarah George (Westchester, Pa./WC Bayard Rustin) fed Lynch a beautfiul pass from her knees that Lynch took advantage of and shot passed the unexpecting King's goalie.  King's would soon even the score in the 29th minute thanks to a goal from Danielle Terracciano.

The game would remain tied at one entering the second half but Alvernia would put together two quick back-to-back goals for the convincing 3-1 lead.  In the 39th minute Lynch picked an Ashley Tatangelo (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) pass out of the air and one-timed it into the back of the net for her second goal of the game.  Sophomore Katy Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) would connect for her first goal of the season in the 41st minute to put Alvernia up 3-1.

King's would battle back and close the gap with a successful penalty stroke from Candice Russ in the 54th minute to bring the score to 3-2.  Alvernia would put the game out of reach with Lynch's third goal of the day assisted by both Eby and Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood).

Crusader goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) had 12 saves on the day.

The Crusaders will return to action when they travel to Eastern University for a non-conference game at 4:00pm on October 8th.
