Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville) doubled three times in his first four at-bats and
Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) homered and drove in three runs in support of junior
Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) who threw seven innings in a 9-2 win over Messiah College (4-6) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Messiah.
Ahlquist picked up his first double in the top of the first inning and Martin drive him home with his first homer of the sesaon. Ahlquist picked up his second double in the fourth and drove in two runs with his third double in the fifth. Martin finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs and drove in his third run with a sac fly in the eighth.
Messiah scored once in the first on a solo home run and used a pair of doubles in the seventh to plate its second run.
Zellers scattered five hits over seven innings and gave up two runs while striking out five. Alvernia used three different relievers to throw the last two innings giving up just one hit.
Ahlquist finished 4-for-5 at the plate,
Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) was 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and
Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) and Tyler Runkel (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) were both 2-for-5.
Alvernia will face New Jersey City University on Sunday in Jersey City.
