Ft. Pierce, Fl. (Mar. 2, 2009) - Alvernia University (7-2) kept up its winning ways with another doubleheader sweep on Monday in sunny Florida getting past Elizabethtown College (2-3) 1-0 in game one and 10-9 in game two in non-conference baseball action.  Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) threw a one-hitter in the opener and knocked in the winning run with a fifth inning triple.  He added the game-winning RBI in game two with a fifth inning double that gave Alvernia the margin it needed.

Stoudt mowed through the first six batters he faced before giving up a leadoff single in the third inning.  He got back-to-back groundouts to third and a strikeout to strand the threat.  He finished game one facing one more than the minimum.  He walked a batter with one out in the fifth, but retired him on a 4-6-3 double play.  He finished with one hit, one walk, and seven strikeouts.

Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) walked with one out in the Alvernia fifth and Stoudt plated him with a triple to the right field gap.  Stoudt tried to score on a fly ball of the bat of Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), but was cut down at the plate leaving the Crusaders with a 1-0 lead.

Stoudt struck out a pair in the sixth and finished the game with a strikeout, flyout, and groundout in the seventh.

In game two both teams woke up the bats in the first inning scoring four runs apiece.  Etown started it with two hits, two walks, and an error en route to its four-spot, but Alvernia answered with two hits, a walk, and an error.  Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) delivered the big hit, a two-run single that plated Stoudt and Martin.

After a scoreless second, Etown posted three more in the third chasing Alvernia starter Mike Lloyd (Reading, Pa./Central Catholic), but the offense took Lloyd off the hook when Tyler Runkle (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) lifted a grand slam to left.

Alvernia plated single runs in the fourth and fifth to build a 10-7 lead, and Etown pulled within one on a two-out, two-run double, but the runner was nailed at third trying to stretch it into a triple.

Andrew Sellers (Pequea, Pa./Penn Manor) threw 3 and 2/3 innings in relief to get the win and freshman Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) struck out the side in the seventh around a single and a walk to record the save.

Alvernia will have Tuesday off and face Susquehanna University on Wednesday.
