Zellers Throws Complete Game At Misericordia

Crusaders Score Once In The Eighth For 3-2 Win

Dallas, Pa. (Apr. 9, 2009) - Junior starter Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley) threw a complete game and struck out 13 to lead Alvernia University (17-11, 4-4) to a 3-2 win over Misericordia University (15-13, 4-6) Thursday afternoon in Freedom Conference baseball action at Misericordia.

Alvernia sophomore Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) doubled home a run in the eighth to put the Crusaders up 3-2 and Zellers struck out the last two in the eighth with a runner on and another in the ninth.

Misericordia took the lead on a double steal in the second, but Alvernia took the lead in the fourth with back-to-back RBIs from Eric Domitrovits (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) and Adam Vrabel (Whitehall, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic).

The Cougars tied the score in the seventh and Alvernia freshman Mike Latona (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), who scored the first run in the fourth, singled with one out in the eighth.  Stoudt followed with a double to left that brought Latona all the way around from first.

Misericordia had a runner on in the eighth but Zellers set down a pair and then retired the side in the ninth.

Domitrovits finished 2-for-4 and Latona was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

Alvernia will host Elizabethtown in non-conference action on Monday.
