Baseball Outslugs Eastern In Doubleheader Sweep

St. David's, Pa. (Apr. 18, 2009) - Alvernia University (20-14, 7-5) took advantage of seven Eastern University (3-25, 0-12) errors leading to an 11-6 win in game one and completed the doubleheader sweep with a 19-10 win in game two of Freedom Conference baseball action at Eastern.

Alvernia fell behind 4-0 after three innings in game one, but scored seven runs over the next three innings to take a lead it didn't relinquish.  Steve DeBarberie (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) went 2-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs in game one and Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) was 2-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs.

Sophomore starter Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) went eight and a third innings and gave up six runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts.  Ed Thompson (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) nailed down the win throwing the final two thirds of an inning.

In game two Alvernia scored six runs in the third inning and seven runs in the fifth and outslugged the Eagles getting its second highest output of the season and the third straight game scoring in double figures.

Eric Focht (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) went 5-for-6 with five runs scored in game two and Eric Domintrovits (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) had four RBIs.

Alvernia is scheduled to travel to Rutgers-Newark for a non-conference game on Monday.
