Alvernia Shuts Out Gwynedd-Mercy

Eby Saves Eight For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2009) - Sophomore goalie Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) was solid in net making eight saves and three different players tallied goals as Alvernia University (4-1) ran its win streak to four straight with a 3-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy (3-3) in non-conference field hockey action Saturday evening at Alvernia.

Senior forward Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine Heights) pushed home the first goal of the game through a scrum in front of the GMC net in the 14th minute.  It was her third goal of the season.

Sophomore Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) scored on a penalty stroke in the 26th minute after a GMC defender was whistled for stopping the ball with her foot.

Alvernia held a 2-0 lead at halftime and junior Ashley Tatangelo (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) posted the final score with nifty deflection in the 61st minute.

Alvernia wraps up a four-game home stand hosting Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday.
