Chester, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2010) - Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Lauren Guido (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) scored two goals each to lead Alvernia University (9-7, 3-2) to a pivotal 4-2 win at Widener University (8-4, 1-3) Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action.

Guido opened the scoring in the sixth minute on a penalty stroke, but Widener answered that four minutes later.  Then it was Rutt in the 11th minute, but the Pride again answered to knot the score at 2-2 where it remained until halftime.

Guido put the Crusaders back up one three minutes into the second half and Rutt added insurance in the 51st minute.  Freshman keeper Samantha Leck (Fleetwood, Pa./Oley Valley), who subbed in after the second goal, made six saves to earn the win.

Alvernia will continue the conference schedule facing Lebanon Valley at home on Saturday.
