Reading, Pa. (Oct. 23, 2010) - Top-ranked Lebanon Valley (15-1, 4-1) used a two-goal spurt late in the first half to turn a one-goal leading into a comfotrable 3-0 lead en route to a 4-0 win over Alvernia University (9-8, 3-3) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference Field Hockey action at Schlager Memorial Field.
Alvernia is still in a reasonably comfortable playoff position needing just a victory over Albright College on Tuesday or a Lebanon Valley victory over Widener next Saturday to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot. The four-team playoffs start Wednesday, Nov. 3 at the top two seeds.
Saturday at Alvernia LVC opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Caitlin Vassey scored her 18th of the season going over 100 career points in the process.
Jocelyn Novak scored in the 28th minute for a 2-0 lead -- her 100th career goal -- and Vasey added her second of the game 85 seconds later.

Alvernia hosts Albright on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. for the final conference regular season contest. The game will be webcast live through the Alvernia website.
