Late Goals Lead To 2-0 Win

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 28, 2010) - Alvernia University (11-8) scored a pair of goals in the fina three and a half minutes and Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) stopped four shots for a 2-0 win over Cabrini College (10-7) Thursday evening in non-conference field hockey action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Crusaders here dominant offensively but couldn't for the back of the next for better than 65 minutes of play.  Alvernia racked up 20 corners before Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) blasted home a shot on the 21st in the 67th minute.  Erin Solley (Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) inserted to Rutt at the top of the circle and the junior defender beat the Cabrini goalie to the near post for her 12th of the season.

Alvernia finished with a 21-1 advantage in corners and a 20-4 advantage in shots with Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenxiville) scoring on the final one of the night in the closing seconds.

Eby made a pair of saves in each half for her first shutout of the season.

Alvernia will move into the postseason and travel to top-seeded Messiah College for the Commonwealth Conference opener next Wednesday.
