Reading, Pa. (Nov. 8, 2010) - Alvernia University has been seeded sixth in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Field Hockey Championships and will head to #3 Drew University for an 8:00 quarterfinal game Wednesday evening.
The Crusaders (11-9) finished the regular season in fourth place in the Commonwealth Conference and lost to evenutal champion and national #1 Messiah College last Wednesday. They are making their second straight and third overall appearance in the ECAC Tournament. Alvernia was the ECAC runner up in 2004 then followed with three straight NCAA appearances. Last season the Crusaders defeated Wesley College, 4-0 in quarterfinal action before losing to Hartwick by the same score in the semifinal.
This is the first meeting between Alvernia and Drew in field hockey.
The Crusaders have four players with five or more goals this season led by junior defender
Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) who has tallied a dozen.
Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) has started 16-of-18 games in net for the Crusaders this season and has a 1.96 goal against average.
The Rangers finished the regular season 13-6 and missed out on the Landmark playoffs with a conference record of 3-3. Katie Eggert leads Drew with 17 goals this season. Eggert was recently named the Landmark Offensive Player of the Year.
