Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) allowed no runs and just two hits over seven innings as Alvernia (14-5) defeated Chestnut Hill (7-8) this afternoon at home in non-conference action.
The Crusaders got on the board early, scoring all five of their runs before allowing Chestnut Hill on the board.
Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Westchester Henderson) and
Tim Ahlquist (Millville, NJ/Millville) got things started with back to back singles in the bottom of the first inning, and after a sacrifice bunt they both came around to score on a single from
Chuck Krichling (Chesterfield, NJ/North Burlington). They added another run in the fourth inning on an RBI-single from
Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and another in the fifth on an RBI-single from
Chazz Losito (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove). The Crusaders final run came in the seventh inning thanks to a double from Ahlquist followed by an RBI-triple from
Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown).
Chestnut Hill finally got on the board in the eighth inning when they managed two hits and a walk to push across two runs.
Austin Rohrbach (Maxatawny, Pa./Kutztown) shut down the Chestnut Hill offense in the ninth inning with three strikeouts to preserve the 5-2 win.
Alvernia returns to action tomorrow when they host Commonwealth opponent Albright College at 3:30pm.
