BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (April 16, 2010) - Senior
Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) and junior
Jack Brucker (Dresher, Pa./Montgomery CC) knocked in four runs each and
Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) gave up three runs over seven innings to lead Alvernia University (22-7, 9-4) to a 13-7 win over Arcadia University (5-20, 1-9) Friday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball action at Angelica Park.
Both teams went down in order in the first inning and after Arcadia stranded the first base runner in the top of the second, Alvernia sent 10 batters to the plate in the second scoring five runs for the early 5-0 lead. Bealer plated the first two with a double and Brucker followed with a two-run single.
The Alvernia lead grew to 12-0 as the Crusaders scored three in the third, one in the fifth, and three more in the sixth in support of Kirk who walked two and struck out two.
Bealer and Brucker drove in a run each in the three-run third.
Bealer and
Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) led the team with three runs each and
Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) joined Bealer with a team-best three runs each.
Arcadia made some noise with three runs in the seventh and four unearned runs in the eighth, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
The two teams will face off Saturday in a doubleheader at Arcadia.
