Power Surge Leads Alvernia Past Misericordia, 20-6

Crusaders Smash Four Home Runs

Dallas, Pa. (April 27, 2010) - Freshman Steve Medvidick (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) hit two of four home runs for Alvernia University (29-8) in a 20-6 win over Misericordia University (18-17) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Misericordia.

Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame), the current Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week, started the hit parade for the Crusaders with a two-run homer in the second that tied the game at 2-all.

Medvidick hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) added a three-run shot as the Crusaders plated five in the fourth for a 7-2 lead.

The Crusaders used small ball to score five times in the sixth and four more in the seventh, and Medvidick hit the team's fourth home run, a solo shot, in the eighth.

Senior Brian Longo (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) threw five innings of relief to pick up the win.

Witkowski and Medvidick both had three-hit days as did Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and Kevin Bailey (Fallston, Md./Fallston).  Medvidick finished with a team-high four RBIs and Witkowski led the team with five runs scored.

Alvernia continues non-conference play at Gwynedd-Mercy on Wednesday.
