Reading, Pa. (April 5, 2010) - Alvernia University head coach Yogi Lutz earned his 600th and 601st wins as the Crusaders (17-5, 6-3) swept a Commonwealth Conference baseball doubleheader at Albright College (5-15, 2-7) Monday afternoon by scores of 10-2 and 5-4.

Lutz currently ranks 19th in victories among active Division III coaches and is 23rd in win percentage.

Alvernia sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth inning of game one and scored six runs to pull out to a comfortable 7-1 lead in support of Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) who went the distance and allowed just two runs, one earned, over seven innings with seven strikeouts.

Senior Chuck Krichling (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington) went 4-for-4 with five RBIs in the opener.  He contributed a bases-clearing double in the Crusaders' 6-run fourth.  Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) and Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) both had two hits for the Crusaders, and Steve Bealer (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) scored three runs.

In game two Alvernia needed a tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh to complete the three-game series sweep which started Thursday with a 3-1 home win.  Bealer reached on a fielder's choice, stole second, and scored on a Krichling single for a 5-4 lead.  Austin Rohrbach (Maxatawny, Pa./Kutztown), who entered in the sixth to strand a runner at third, picked up the win for the Crusaders.

Both teams picked up one run each over the first three innings and Alvernia scored two in the fourth and another run in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead in support of Shane Zellers (Wiconisco, Pa./Williams Valley), who was looking for his seventh straight win to start the season.

Zellers left after the fourth and the Lions touched reliever Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) for three runs in the fifth to tie the score.  Both teams had a runner on in the sixth, but didn't score.

Krichling finished the day 7-for-7 with a 3-for-3 effort in game two.  Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville) picked up two hits in game two.
