Lower Gwynedd, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2010) - Junior Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) scored a goal in each half and freshman Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) notched the game-winner on a rebound in the second overtime as Alvernia University (2-1) defeated Gwynedd-Mercy College (1-3) by a 3-2 final Saturday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Gwynedd.

Rutt opened the scoring early in the game converting an assist from Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) just over two minutes into play.  GMC tied the score in the 20th minute and Rutt broke the tie again on a feed from Guido early in the second half.

Once again the Griffins found the equalizer and thought they had the go-ahead goal with under 10 to play, but the goal was disallowed.

The game was scoreless through the first overtime period before Dillman ended it six minutes into the second overtime.

Abby Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) made 11 saves in 56 minutes and Samantha Wilt (Lititz, Pa./Ephrata) stopped seven in 35 minutes.

Alvernia will travel to Misericordia University on Tuesday to continue the non-conference schedule.
