Reading, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2011) - Alvernia University (8-3) got a goal each from
Erin Solley (Reading, Pa./Oley Valley) and
Taylor Eichelberger (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) in the second half en route to a 2-0 win over King's College (6-4) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Schlager Memorial Field.
Alvernia poured eight shots on net in the opening half, but King's goalie Megan Withrow stopped six herself and got a defensive save from her back line to keep the game scoreless. The Monarchs managed just one shot on net in the first, and
Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) was up to the challenge.
Wunsch needed just two total saves to record her fourth shutout of the season. Solley scored the Crusaders' first goal just over two minutes into the second half. The first shot from the top of the circle was caught up in traffic.
Tonya Rutt's (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) effort was off Withrow's foot and Solley beat Withrow to the loose ball for her second of the season.
Nearly 30 minutes later Eichelberger finished her first of the year on a feed from
Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood). Guido beat the King's defense around the corner on the endline and crossed the ball between Withrow's legs where Eichelberger was waiting to pound it home.
Wednesday's win over King's evens up the series between the two teams at three wins apiece.
The Crusaders get back to the Commonwealth Conference schedule with five league games in the next six starting with a game against Elizabethtown on Saturday at home.
