Glenside, Pa. (Mar. 18, 2011) - Senior pitcher Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) threw a complete game three-hitter and Travis Wrambel (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) smashed a two-run homer as Alvernia University (10-1, 1-0) opened the Commonwealth Conference schedule with a 7-1 victory at Arcadia University (0-9, 0-1) Friday afternoon.

Nicholas walked six but struck out a dozen and gave up just a single run on a two-out single in the fifth.

Wrambel homered with one out and one on in the second to give the Crusaders an early 2-0 lead.  They built on that with an RBI single from Chris Ray (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) in the fifth then answered Arcadia's single run with four more in the sixth--the big blow a three-run single by Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville).

Alvernia totalled 12 hits with four players collecting two each including Wramble who finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Arcadia pays a visit to Angelica Park on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at noon to finish the three-game series.
