Annville, Pa. (Mar. 26, 2011) - Junior Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) and freshman Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) both threw six solid innings allowing just one run between them as Alvernia University (15-1, 6-0) started the league schedule with back-to-back sweeps besting Lebanon Valley 3-1 and 10-0 Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball action at Lebanon Valley.

Kirk gave up the only run of the day on six hits whild striking out seven.  Weinhold shut out the Dutchmen on two hits and four walks and struck out eight.  Senior Austin Rohrbach (Maxatawny, Pa./Kutztown) closed out the opener for his fourth save of the season.  Sophomore Rich Collins (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) threw the final inning of the nightcap.

Alvernia scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh in support of Kirk.  Eric Domitrovits (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) singled scored in the fifth.  Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson) singled and scored on a Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) triple in the sixth, and Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep), who had two hits in three at-bats to lead the Crusader offense, walked with two out in the seventh and scored on a Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) triple.

In game two Ray led the way with three hits in four at-bats.  Stimpson, Witkowski, Martin, and Aaron Carman (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) all had two hits.

The Crusaders scored three times in the opening inning with two coming home on a Travis Wrambel (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) two-out single. They tacked on two more in the fourth then blew it open with five runs in the fifth.

Alvernia returns home for a non-conference tilt with The College of New Jersey on Monday.
