Four-Run Fifth Carries #5 Kean past #12/25 Alvernia

Ray Continues Hit Streak With A Pair Of Hits

Union, N.J. (Mar. 30, 2011) - For the second time in three days Alvernia University (15-3) faced an ace from the NJAC with limited success as #5 Kean University (16-3) trotted out Mike Russo for eight innings and he held the Crusaders to one run on five hits in a 10-1 win.

Alvernia sophomore Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson) ran his hit streak to 17 games with a pair of singles and the Crusaders helped Kean's cause with three errors which led to four unearned runs.

Alvernia ace Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) went five innings and gave up six runs on six hits with six strikeouts.  Cody Smith threw three inning of relief and gave up four runs--one earned--on five hits.

Kean scored two runs in the third, and Alvernia answered right back with an RBI-single from Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) in the fourth, but Kean distanced itself with four runs in the fifth.

Alvernia continues its NJAC tour traveling to Rowan University on Thursday.
