#23 Rowan Stops #11/14 Alvernia's 10-Game Win Streak

Ray Collects Three Hits

Glassboro, N.J. (Apr. 20, 2011) - No. 23 Rowan University (21-7-1) scored four runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-2 win over #11/14 Alvernia University (25-4) snapping the Crusaders' 10-game win streak Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Rowan.

The Profs scored single runs in the first and second innings for a 2-0 lead before the Crusaders pushed across a run in the third on Chris Ray's (Exton, Pa./Henderson) RBI single.  Ray scored a run in the fourth inning to pull Alvernia within one again, 3-2, but Rowan scored four runs on four hits in the sixth then tacked on two more in the seventh for the 9-2 final.

Ray led the Crusaders with three hits in five at-bats.  Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) had two hits and a pair of walks.

Junior Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest) suffered his first loss of the season giving up four runs on eight hits over five and a third innings.

Alvernia returns to the conference schedule on Thursday hosting Messiah College for the first of their three-game series.  The Falcons currently sit in second in the Commonwealth with a 12-3 record.
