#11/13 Alvernia Betters Stevenson 13-9

Weinhold Has Three Hits And Three Runs Scored

BOX SCORE

Aberdeen, Md. (Apr. 27, 2011) - Alvernia University (28-5) scored runs in just three separate innings, but did plenty of damage in those frames to post a 13-9 win over Stevenson University (12-25) Wednesday evening in non-conference baseball action at Yankee Stadium Field.

Junior Travis Wrambel (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) hit a grand slam to account for four runs in the third.  Four straight batters drove in a run as part of a six-run fourth, and the Crusaders tacked on three runs in the ninth.  Not to be outdone, the Mustangs posted a crooked number with seven runs in the home half of the fourth highlighted by a pair of two-out, two-run hits.

Sophomore Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) and freshman Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) flip-flopped their usual spots for the Crusaders with Witkowski taking the ball on the mound and Weinhold getting the nod in right field.

Witkowski lasted into the fourth and gave up seven runs on five base hits.  He got three of those runs back on his own scoring three times while Weinhold had a little better go of it going 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.

Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson) also had three hits in four at-bats for the Crusaders and Julian Faria (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) turned in the only other multi-hit game with a pair of base hits in four at-bats.

Alvernia returns to conference action this weekend with a three-game set with crosstown rival Albright.  The Crusaders have already locked up the top seed for the Commonwealth playoffs which begin next Thursday at Owls Field in West Lawn, and will play the yet-to-be-determined #4 seed at 4:00 p.m.
