Reading, Pa. (Apr. 29, 2011) - Alvernia University (29-5, 15-1) jumped out to a 15-0 lead and cruised to a 16-5 win Friday afternoon in the first of a Commonwealth Conference baseball three-game series with Albright College at Kelchner Field.
The Crusaders posted two in the first inning on a
Travis Wrambel (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) homer then got back-to-back, two-run singles as part of a five-run third. Another run in the fifth preceded four in the sixth and three more in the seventh for a 15-0 lead in support of
Chuck Nicholas (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) who improved to 6-2 with the win.
Albright plated four runs in the eighth and both teams tacked on a run in the ninth.
Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame),
Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./Henderson), and Wrambel each scored three times for the Crusaders. Nicholas went seven innings gave up five hits, and struck out 11.
The Crusaders host the Lions Saturday for the final two games of the conference schedule.
