Alvernia Finishes With A Sweep Of Albright

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 30, 2011) - Alvernia University (31-6, 17-1) finished off an impressive run through the Commonwealth Conference schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Albright College (9-25, 3-15) Saturday afternoon by finals of 13-3 and 5-1 at Angelica Park.

Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Pennsbury) gave up three runs on five hits with eight strikeouts over six innings to earn the win in the opener and Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) gave up just one run on two hits with five strikeouts over six innings in game two.

Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) was 4-for-4 with a pair of home runs and three runs scored in the opener.  Three other players crossed the plate twice for Alvernia in game one, and Aaron Carman (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) finished with three hits in four at-bats with three RBIs.

Stimpson and Brian Witkowski (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) were both 2-for-4 in game two and Matt O'Neill (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) went 2-for-3.

Alvernia will finish up the regular season hosting Rutgers-Newark on Sunday.  The Crusaders will be the top seed in the Commonwealth baseball playoffs which begin next Thursday at Owls Field in West Lawn.
