Crusaders Comeback For 2-1 Win

Alvernia Rallies To Defeat York 2-1

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 1, 2011) – Junior Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) scored the game-winner as Alvernia (1-0) defeated host York (0-1) this afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.  After falling behind early in the game, the Crusaders rallied back to score the next two goals for the 2-1 victory.

York opened the scoring as Sandee Reich found the back of the net on a back-handed shot in the 13th minute.  Alvernia didn't wait long to answer as junior Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) evened the score in the 15th minute thanks to a penalty corner pass from Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata).

The game remained knotted at 1-1 late into the game until Guido put Alvernia up for good in the 57th minute, assisted by Katy Eby (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot).

Alvernia freshman goalie Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) needed two first half saves and five second half saves to hold York scoreless from the 13th minute on.

The Crusaders return to action Sept. 7th when they host Franklin & Marshall in their home opener at 7:00pm.
