Huntingdon, Pa. (Oct. 16, 2012) - Senior forward Brittany Barcus (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) scored the lone goal of the game as Alvernia University (8-8) defeated host Juniata College (6-9) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action.
The first half was a scoreless affair for both sides as neither team could find the back of the net. Alvernia earned an impressive nine penalty corners, and fired off seven shots, three on goal, but were unable to capitalize and settled for a 0-0 tie through the first 35 minutes. Juniata had five shots and four corners in the first half.
The Crusaders broke through with Barcus' second goal of the season in the 55th minute off of a penalty corner. Barcus gathered the corner pass-in and fired one off for the goal, it took a fortunate bounce off a Juniata defender's stick and skipped past the goalkeeper to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead and eventual win.

Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) needed just three saves through the full 70 minutes to record her sixth shutout of the season.
Alvernia outshot Juniata 7-3 in the second half and earned three penalty corners to Juniata's one.
The Crusaders are back in action on Sat. Oct. 20th when they host Stevenson at 1:00pm in a Play for the Cure game.
