Reading, Pa. (Oct. 27, 2012) - Four different players scored including junior defender
Nikki Wessner (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg), who scored her first of the season, as Alvernia University (10-9) defeated Cabrini College (8-8) on the final day of the regular season in non-conference field hockey action at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Crusaders scored three of their four goals in the first half in a 10-minute stretch.
Melanie Lowry (Gap, Pa./Octorara) scored her fourth of the season in the 19th minute and senior
Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) followed with her 10th of the season just more than a minute later assisted by
Summer Liberto (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding), and
Brittney Barcus (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) scored on a penatly stroke in the 28th minute.
Wessner scored the final goal of the game unassisted in the 60th minute. Sophomore
Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made five saves, all in the second half, to record the shutout.
Alvernia is ECAC eligible with win and will await a possible invitation next Monday, November 5. The ECAC quarterfinals are November 7, with the final four taking place the following weekend.
