Wilkes-Barre, Pa. (Oct. 4, 2012) - Senior
Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) scored twice, and assisted on another as Alvernia University (6-6) defeated host King's College (8-4) Thursday afternoon in non-conference action 4-1. Peto book-ended Alvernia's scoring as her first goal came less than four minutes into the game, while her second in the 47th minute was Alvernia's fourth tally.
Peto gave Alvernia the quick 1-0 lead as she stole the ball in the circle and sent a shot through the keeper's legs for her fifth goal of the season. She assisted
Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) for Alvernia's second goal, in the 16th minute, as she and Guido took King's on with a 2-on-1 breakaway that ended with a left to right shot from Guido for her seventh of the season.
The Crusaders added some insurance with a goal from Brittany Barcus (Atglen, Pa./Octorara) in the 23rd minute off a scramble in front of the net before Peto concluded the scoring with a tap in at the goal line after the goalkeeper was challenged.
King's College managed one back in the 52nd minute as
Jackie Sikora netted her fifth of the season thanks to a quick shot on the goal line.
Alvernia keeper
Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) played the full 70 minutes and recorded eight saves.
The Crusaders are back in action Sat. Oct. 6th when they travel to Widener for a Commonwealth Conference game beginning at 12:00pm.
