FDU Advances To ECAC Final

Annville, Pa. (Nov. 10, 2012) - Eighth-seeded FDU-Florham (12-10) continued its upset run with a 2-1 overtime win over #4 Alvernia University (11-10) Saturday evening in semifinal action of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Field Hockey Championships at Lebanon Valley College.



The Knights scored in the 62nd minute to tie the score at 1-1 then scored eight minutes into overtime for the winner.  The Crusaders had a corner play that resulted in a long rebound and a fast break in the 7-on-7 overtime period and the Knights' leading scorer, Lanie Andrews was able to cash in.



Alvernia freshman Summer Liberto (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) put the Crusaders on the board with a goal in the 31st minute assisted by Natalie Messaros (Oxford, Pa./Oxford).  Alvernia sophomore Erin Wunsch (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) made four saves in net for the Crusaders.



FDU defeated top-seeded Wesley College in overtime in a quarterfinal Thursday and will face #3 Stevens, a 2-0 winner over LVC, in the final on Sunday afternoon.
