Haverford Tops Alvernia, 10-2

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 24, 2012) - Haverford College (19-17) put up a 3-run second and held Alvernia University (24-10-1) to just eight hits in a 10-2 win Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Angelica Park.

Both teams scored a run in the first then Haverford put up three in the second.  Alvernia starter Mike Weinhold (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) retired the first two batters in the inning, but surrendered back-to-back walks before a two-run triple off the bat of Nick Miranda, who came in to score on a throwing error.

Haverford built its lead to 8-1 until Alvernia scored its second run in the eighth.  Five players had a hit apiece for the Crusaders while Aaron Carmen (Robesonia, Pa./Conrad Weiser) went 3-for-4.  Nick Miranda went 3-for-4 for Haverford and Alex Hudak went 4-for-4.

Weinhold took the loss going four innings and giving up six runs (five earne) with four walks and six strikeouts.

The Crusaders host Stevenson on Wednesday and return to conference action Friday at Widener.
