BOX SCORE
Reading, Pa. (Apr. 5, 2012) - Alvernia University (17-7-1, 6-1) scored four runs in the fourth to tie the game then matched single runs in the fifth and eighth before scoring the walk-off run in the 12th inning of an 8-7 win over Albright College (10-15, 3-4) Thursday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference baseball at Angelica Park.
Senior outfielder
Nole Saylor (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) hit a three-run, game-tying home run in the fourth inning, his second home run during a current five-game hitting streak.
Albright took the lead back on a balk in the fifth inning--the last inning of work for Crusaders' starter
Andrew Kirk (Media, Pa./Penncrest). The offense quickly got him off the hook when
Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) opened the bottom of the fifth with a single and came around on
Matt Patterson's (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham) double.
After an unearned run for the Lions in the eighth Alvernia scored a third game-tying run in the bottom of the inning when Saylor drove in junior catcher
Kevin Bailey (Fallston, Md./Fallston).
Neither team scored until the 12th when Patterson singled, moved up on to third on a sacrifice bunt and an error, and scored on Bailey's sacrifice fly to left.
The two teams will take the weekend off for Easter and return to action Monday for a doubleheader at Albright to complete the three-game series.
Freshman reliever
Kevin Becker-Menditto (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) threw four innings of scoreless innings to earn the win.
