Lower Gwynedd, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2012) - Gwynedd-Mercy College (4-2) scored goals on three of its four shots on Saturday afternoon in a 3-1, non-conference win over Alvernia University (3-3) in field hockey action at Gwynedd.

The Griffins took the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, but the Crusaders struck right back on the second goal of the year by junior Kyle Dillman (Hershey, Pa./Lower Dauphin) less than a minute later.  Senior Lauren Guido (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) nearly put the Crusaders on top in the final seconds of the half, but her shot rang off the post leaving the teams locked at 1-1 after 35 minutes.

The Griffins went ahead nine minutes into the second half, and again the Crusaders responded with pressure.  They earned a penalty corner, but GMC keeper Kelly Kruk turned aside a shot from Taylor Eichelberger (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor).  The Griffins responded with a corner of their own and turned it into their third goal of the game and a two-goal cushion.

The Crusaders pushed forward to earn six corners and rip five shots in the final 20 minutes of play, but Kruk added three more saves and got a defensive play in the final seconds to seal the win.

Alvernia returns home for back-to-back tough games against Eastern on Wednesday and Lebanon Valley on Saturday.
