Crusaders Fall To Albright In Overtime

Alvernia Recovers From 2-0 Deficit Before Losing In OT

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 29, 2012) - The Alvernia University field hockey squad fell to host Albright College (7-3, 1-1) in overtime by a score of 3-2 Saturday morning in Commonwealth Conference action. Alvernia (4-6, 0-2) fell behind 2-0, rallied for two second half goals to tie it, but couldn't quite hold on as the Lions netted the game-winner 5:56 into overtime.

After falling behind thanks to goals from the Lions in the 37th and 55th minute, the Crusaders got one back with a goal from Summer Liberto (Severna Park, Md./Arch Bishop Spalding) with 20 minutes remaining in the second half. It was her second of the season to cut Albright's lead in half. Alvernia continued to trail 2-1 until the 68th minute of play when junior Amanda Galanti (Red Bank, NJ/Marine Acad. of Sci./Tech.) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to tie the game at two.

Despite two penalty corners and two shots from Alvernia early in the overtime period, it took the Lions just one shot and less than six minutes into the first overtime to net the game-winner.

The Crusaders return to action on Oct. 2 when they host Arcadia University for a Commonwealth Conference game at 4:00pm.
